Project Description

The Institute for Environment, Health, Risks and Futures (IEHRF) is based within Cranfield University’s School of Applied Sciences. Our expertise spans the natural, technological, economic and political domains. Our horizon scanning activity is part of a significant project within the Institute, funded by a partnership of government and research council organisations.

Horizon scanning is: “The systematic examination of potential threats, opportunities and likely future developments which are at the margins of current thinking and planning…  Overall, it is intended to improve the robustness of … policies and [the] evidence base.” (Defra, 2002)

Horizon scanning provides a regular overview of some of the key issues and insights relevant to your future business. We cannot – and do not want to – present you with everything we find. Instead, this document is designed to inform you – policy and strategy makers, customers and stakeholders – about what we think are important things happening around us. We do not aim to give specialised insights in this document, but instead provide an opportunity to think about how changes, beyond your immediate field of work, may impact your future.
